DamNation – the “dam buster” movie

“When, as a young man, […] Matt Stoecker witnessed migrating steelhead jump at, and bounce off, Stanford University’s Searsville Dam, he recognized the destructive power of a single dam on an entire watershed and beyond.” Quote: www.damnationfilm.com

Matt Stoecker and the founder of Patagonia Yvon Chouinard work together and share their desire to reestablish longitudinal connectivity of rivers by tearing down dams. For 2013 the planned the first broadcast of their new movie DamNation to bring their topic of “busting dams” to a broader audience. This is really an incredibe piece of work and this is going to be a great movie, at least that is what can be expected from the already released trailer. So I am looking forward to watching that movie this year. Just watch the trailer:

Matt Stoecker has also many more interesting videos about river ecology and the burning topic of connectivity of rivers respectively the impacts of dams on river systems. Look here for some examples.
